Debbie's Blog - July 31 - Amazing Promises from God!

When we start to get fearful, or sad, or battle-weary, often our first tendency is to whine to friends, become "basket-cases" or simply withdraw from the cold, cruel world.  At least that's what I sometimes do!

But, whenever I feel fearful or weary or depressed, it would be much more helpful if I'd remember to open my bible first!   God has given us some amazing promises that we can hang onto in the midst of the storm!  Here are a few:

"Yet I am always with you;

you hold me by my right hand.

You guide me with your counsel,

and afterward you will take me into glory.

Whom have I in heaven but you?

And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart

and my portion forever."  Psalm 73:23-26

"Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;

he rises to show you compassion.

For the Lord is a God of justice.

Blessed are all who wait for him!"   Isaiah 30:18

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."   Romans 8:38-39

"The Lord is close to the broken-hearted

and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

A righteous man may have many troubles,

but the Lord delivers him from them all."   Psalm 34:18-19

In recent years, I've occasionally heard bible teachers mention that there is power in praying the actual words found in the bible... God's words.  I guess I never really understood that... until recently.

I did an interview a few months ago with a pastor's wife from the midwest (Pamela Hines) who said she and the women at her church had a huge breakthrough in their families when they finally began praying God's promises (the actual words of promise found in his bible) over their husbands.  They inserted the names of their husbands in these promises and prayed them back to God.  She said it was a revolutionary experience, and extremely powerful.

Well - that got me to really thinking about this whole thing and I began to search the bible to see if there was any reference to this business of "power" behind actually speaking the words of God (which are found in the bible).  Hallelujah!  There is such a reference.  It is in Isaiah 55, verses 10-11, which reads like this:

10 As the rain and the snow
       come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
       without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

I'm beginning to speak God's promises over my husband and over my children, and I am expecting powerful results.  :)   Curious about the particular scripture I've been praying over my husband recently?  Well here it is (with my husband's name inserted):

Psalm 1:

1 Blessed is Raul
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But Raul's delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law Raul meditates day and night.

3 Raul is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
       Whatever Raul does prospers.

In case you've never heard of our "Chavez Sunday" thing...it's simply a open door potluck that we do every 3rd Sunday of the month at our home.  We tell all of our family and friends that they're always welcome to come by starting at 1 o'clock.  We provide the main dish (usually some fabulous barbecue done by my husband) and everyone that comes needs to bring just one thing.  We don't organize it at all, so sometimes we have lots of desserts :) and no vegetables.  Other times, we have all salads and no desserts.  It doesn't really matter because the event is fun and spontaneous and rather random!

The best part, though, is just sitting around catching up with people in our lives.  You know, God really did intend for us to fellowship together.  We need each other.  When someone's having a rough time, they need to be around other people so that they can receive encouragement and compassion.  And when someone is celebrating success, they need others to enjoy that moment with them.

Our lives can get so busy sometimes that we actually squeeze the people out!  I hope we don't get so frenzied with our busy schedules that we forget that people are the best part of life!  I'm glad we've reserved a few days each month to purposely hang out with people.

Do you have a cool way of fellowshipping with people?  Let me know.

In America, we are so used to planning out our lives, striving for success, and "making things happen" that we truly don't fully comprehend what it means to really trust in God.  At least for me, I've SAID I trusted in God in the past, but I was really just trusting in my own abilities.

The journey I'm on right now is pretty unique because I'm pressing forward with a ministry that I believe God has called me to...but it's really out there on the cutting edge.  I mean, internet radio is still a foreign concept to so many people.  But the amazing thing I'm learning on this journey is that, if God has called me to do something, he WILL be faithful to supply all my needs.  I just need to step out in blind faith and keep my hands open to recieve what he has promised.  I confess that I've been a rather slow learner in this area.

So, here's my question to you?  Are you wringing your hands in worry today....or are you relaxed before God with your hands wide open?   It's kind of hard for him to drop answers into your hands if your hands are clenched in worry!!   Comments??  Please click on the email link below and send me your thoughts.  I will post all "civil" responses!!   I'd love to hear from you.  :)

Debbie,
You don't need to post this publicly, but I have listened to you on KGMI since 1985, when you read the news and bantered with Haines Faye, and others.

You have grown up soooo much from then, and the first "talk" shows. We in Whatcom County are so blessed to witness your walk with yourself, and God.. Your spiritual world has no boundaries. You know you used to be so black and white in  your opinions... Because I have about 10 yrs or more on you, I would pray that your heart would open to all of God's love that is available to us all. God is the God of love.  In the past few years, you have shocked me with your ability to see and not judge and to proclaim and claim, God's love for all, not just the church goers.  And I am proud of you, and I am sure God is too!!

I wish you the best in all your life. You have love, you are pursuing a passion, and life is good!!!

I finally listened to your revelation about your firing.  I know you must take some comfort in the fact that KGMI has totally tanked since you and Brett left. People who can't read, dead air, no ability to interview. All is gone. It's their problem, but your opportunity. Seize it!

Bless you in all you do,

Donna

Debbie, it's so good to hear your upbeat voice once again.
we missed you on KGMI and just recently realized a bit of what has happen.
Thanks for sharing your uncomfortable story so kind and honestly.
Praise God for being the author of forgiveness and offering it to us.

Seems somewhat odd that it took six years for this to suddenly become a problem.
Perhaps it reared it's ugly head because you became more bold in speaking
and using the Lord's name freely. My husband noted some time ago he thought you
became  more bold speaking of spiritual matters since you became Mrs. Chavez.
(a compliment for your husband.)

I am not interested in listening in the afternoons to KGMI since you are no longer on the station.
Listening on a web site is new for me.  A friend told me about this site on 4-28-08.
I will try and listen to you when I can.  I like your positive and up beat attitude as well as your honesty.
Perhaps the Lord took you down this road to reach some special needs of others.

May you continue to be lead by our Almighty Lord and Savior.
Thanks and blessings,
Marcia

Debbie and Raul,

Best wishes to you for this terrific new endeavor. I knew I would be hearing you again after I recovered from hearing the devastating news of your abrupt departure from KGMI. God's plan for you was too limited for just being at KGMI. Thank you for letting God work through you. You bring a terrific ministry to the masses.

God bless,

Karel
