Dating Advice for people of faith

Make sure you only date a fellow believer.  It's so important that you share the same passion for God.  As a Christian, your life perspective is going to be completely shaped by your faith…so you guys will often be pulling in opposite directions if your spouse doesn't seek God.  Also – and this is huge… during times of challenge in your marriage, if your spouse doesn't seek God's counsel and isn't open to being "corrected" by God…it's going to be really challenging.  Look up 2 Corinthians 6:14…..and write down what God is trying to tell you through that verse: ________________________________

What if the person you're dating says he or she believes in God.  Is that good enough?  Looks can be quite deceiving and people say a lot of things that they never follow through on.  But there is a way to test their true heart toward God.  Look up Matthew 7: 15-20 and write down what God is telling you…. ___________________________

What fruit are you supposed to see?  Galatians 5:22-23 spells that out for you.  Check it out and write down what qualities are important in the person you date:  _____________________________________________

** keep in mind that no one will have perfected all these areas, but is the person you're dating displaying many of these qualities and seeking God's help in the other areas????

One of the most important things you can do when dating is to seek Godly counsel.  Find 2 or 3 adults who display godly character and who earnestly seek God in prayer.   Ask them to pray about the person you're dating and to give you their counsel.  Be willing to listen!  Read Proverbs 19:20 and write down what God is telling you: _________________________________

Does the person you're dating show you love and respect?  Are they pushing you to do things that wrong, or do they respect you enough to only do things that are good for you and right in God's eyes?   Read all of Ephesians 5 and write down what God is telling you about the qualities that are important in your future husband or wife: _____________________________

Need hope? Here's what God promises...

Finding Hope in Life Challenges

God promises to bring something good out of even difficult situations if we love him:

Romans 8:28  "And we know that in ______ things, God works for the __________ of those who ___________ ___________."

God responds to our cries for help:

Psalm 34:4–7  "I sought the Lord, and _____ ______________ me; he ____________ me from all my fears.  Those who look to Him are ___________; their faces are never covered with shame.  This poor man called, and the Lord _________ him; he saved him out of all his troubles."

The Lord is our defender:

Psalm 138:7-8  "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me.  The Lord will fulfill his ____________ for me."

God has a plan for your life and it won't be thwarted!:

Psalm 139:16 "All the ______ ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the _______ I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to __________ you and not to harm you, plans to give you _______ and a future."

God promises to draw close to you when you call out to him:

Psalm 145:17-19   "The Lord is righteous in all his ways and loving toward all he has made.  The Lord is ________ to all who call on Him, to all who call on him in ____________.  He fulfills the desires of those who fear Him; he _________ their cry and ________ them."

We can trust in God completely:

Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold ________________ to the hope we profess, for he who promised is ______________."

God rewards our simple faith and trust in Him:

So do not throw away your __________________; it will be richly ___________.  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has _____________.  For in just a very little while, He who is coming will come and will not delay.  But my righteous one will live by __________.   And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him."

God promises blessings for those who stay faithful in tough times:

James 1:12 "___________ is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the _________ of life that God has _____________ to those who love Him."

God has a clearer perspective on what needs to happen than we do:

Isaiah 55:8-9  "For my __________ are not your thoughts, neither are your _______ my ways, declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ______ higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts."

Wonderful reminders for you...
